IV:  Theory and Praxis

Students have a critical grounding in theoretical perspectives that draw on research in LIS as well as other fields of knowledge, that inform their professional practices including research, organization, management, and access to information.

IV.a: Students will describe applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in library and information science.

LIS 6271 RESEARCH METHODS

In this review of a scholarly article originally posted to a discussion board, I closely examine the research and survey design of the study in question, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of both. The topic of the study chosen is closely aligned with my own interest in metadata practices.

LIS 6271 RESEARCH METHODS

In this paper, I demonstrate my ability to evaluate a published research project based on research methods employed by the authors of a certain study. I explored the goals and objectives of the research project, along with the sampling process and research methods, while also identifying the limitations of the study.

IV.b. Students will identify opportunities for research and develop plans for research in applied settings in library and information science.

LIS 6271 RESEARCH METHODS

This research proposal, along with an accompanying presentation, titled “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Special Collections and Archives in the United States and Canada” is the result of a semester long group project. During the course of this project, our group designed a research study, complete with an abstract, literature review, significance of study, goals and objectives, survey instrument, research method design, timeline, and budget. A few of the group members, including myself, have expressed interest in carrying out the research in the future.

This is the audiovisual presentation of the above-mentioned group project proposal, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Special Collections and Archives in the United States and Canada.”
