Systems and Services
Students understand the systems and technologies that facilitate the management and use of information resources to serve the diverse needs of users.
II.a Students identify and analyze diverse information needs of individuals and communities.
LIS 6514 DIGITAL LIBRARIES
This paper discusses the importance of collaboration with various partners, including institutions, scholars, communities, and users, in the creation and maintenance of international, multilingual, and/or non-Western digital libraries, exemplified by the diverse needs of those served by these digital libraries.
LIS 6511 COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE
This group project was a needs assessment performed for the special collections division for a fictional research university in Florida in order to assist with future collection development. The project shows several ways in which data was collected and analyzed.
II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.
LIS 6603 BASIC INFORMATION SOURCES AND SERVICES
This LibGuide was designed to serve both as a companion to the Story/Lines exhibit as well as to serve the needs of users seeking information and resources pertaining to Japanese graphic novels at Cornell University Library.
LIS 6603: BASIC INFORMATION SOURCES/SERVICES
This artifacts demonstrates my strategy in identifying and selecting information resources to meet the needs of a user requesting information on a given topic. I describe my process, from the selection of databases to the evaluation of results I receive in my search.
II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.
LIS 6726C METADATA
I used oXygen, an XML editor, to create RDF/XML of four different items. The result demonstrates my knowledge and practical use of writing metadata records in Extensible Markup Language (XML) using the Resource Description Framework (RDF), a standard that is important in the development of linked online data.
LIS 6726C METADATA
In this two part assignment, I first demonstrated how I harvested two sets of metadata records, in the oai_dc and MARC21 schemas. In the second part of this assignment, I created a metadata crosswalk application profile from my harvested metadata to the MARC, MODS/METS, and VRA Core Schemas. My work demonstrates the knowledge and use of metadata schemas and harvesting techniques in order to move information about items from one format to another. This knowledge is vital in information professions where we work in online digital asset management systems and need to know how to update systems and transfer already existing information (metadata) to new systems and formats.
